Community Learners Go Back

Healthy Lifestyles

What:
The Summer Youth Empowerment program is a free summer program for youth. Young people will participate in civic empowerment training while learning about healthy living. Working with their peers and adult mentors, youth participants will design, organize, and complete an event or project that will make the community a healthier, stronger place.

Why:
Young people can be forces for positive change. It is our goal to have these youth generate media messages and create a branded mini-campaign to promote healthy living (nutrition, physical activity, decrease recreational screen time). They can create events, messages, outreach tools, and media (Facebook, text messages, web pages, brochures, booklets, videos, etc.) to promote healthy lifestyles among their families, peers and neighbors.

Community Partners:
St. Columba-Brigid Teen Center
UB Center for Urban Studies & Wellness
Urban Christian Ministries
Weed and Seed
